Divers on Scubaboard generally praise the OSTC line's highly customizable, open-source-derived interface, calling it better organized than Shearwater's Petrel, along with Bluetooth wireless configuration and exceptional, often free, customer service directly from Heinrichs Weikamp in Germany even outside warranty. The OSTC 2 TR specifically draws criticism for its proprietary wireless transmitter: divers comparing it to the Shearwater Perdix AI noted the OSTC TR is cheaper but the transmitter is hard to source and not interchangeable with more established PPS transmitters, which pushed at least one buyer toward the Perdix AI instead. Separate reliability complaints surface in general OSTC feedback threads, including a depth-sensor failure and one diver reporting five failures across two other OSTC models.

It’s unclear whether the TR variant has been discontinued, folded into the base OSTC 2’s feature set, or simply moved to a different sales channel.
